How to Pass On Without Passing On

Sentimental value only
Fine crinoline ladies and porcelain gents
Your elegant poise is entrancing
Your clothes represent an enormous expense
For frivolous flirting and dancing
Some outfits of mine that are frozen in time
Will provide entertainment forever
The fabric was foolish the style was a crime
But the clash of those colours was clever

One thinks about dumps and donations but why?
These items are viewed with affection
Arrange them admire them add more till you die
And save the whole random collection

Inherited ornaments garments of yore
A hundred plus cups to have tea in
The last destination for these is the floor
Of a burial chamber with me in

  1. Well done, Gill, another version of the poem! Very relevant as I’ve been trying to clear stuff out. Lovely painting.

  2. Yes this one has struck a chord. Book that chamber quick! I’m thinking there’s a development opportunity here if you made them like blocks of flats with very long leases.?

  3. Love this, Gill! Having sifted through 8000 mugs and glasses that we certainly didn’t need to bring to Merseyside, it feels especially relatable!
