Shelf Life

Some of us are soft and sweet and set out very early
Fragrant multi-layered and immaculately dressed
A few were up since yesterday dishevelled going curly
Mostly we're in good condition looking at our best

We sit about and people-watch or ponder when it's quiet
How cool we are and promising and poised to seize the day
We heard there's somewhere nice to go we really want to try it 
And all we need to make the trip is somebody to pay

They say it’s hot and humid there and darkness happens quickly
You get massage  you're kneaded pounded rubbed and turned and squeezed
It’s soothing and relaxing though at first a little tickly 
You then dissolve in lovely dreams and everyone is pleased

The French éclair with chocolate mousse is picked and moving on
Patisserie is so polite and light it's swiftly gone
The chewy locals clap and cheer and shift themselves along
The biscuit and the fairy cake the sandwich and the scone
