A Snooze and a Bun Would be Heaven but No

What the Devil has in store for you
You've arrived says the devil get cracking
The worst of your worries is now
Stop hoping for napping and snacking
You sinned we won't talk about how

Ha ha you’ve won doubt and deciding
And planning and projects and flames
Forever no whingeing no hiding
You’ll organise parties with games

Make costumes and cocktails and speeches
Cook banquets and sing all the songs
Ah no-one is hearing your screeches
Get started this trident has prongs

You’re dead but you’ll always have deadlines
You’ll edit the Deadly Express
And publish your late invitations
To hundreds of miserable guests

The sinners who come to your parties
All begged with their last living breath
That they never be sent to a party
And the thought of it scared them to death

The devil can’t appreciate
That all of us can grow
To adore administration
Or relax and say hello

Disport ourselves in fancy dress
Or play the sparkling host
And plan the menus not with buns
But barbecues and toast

I’ll book some breaks in grand estates
They always like a ghost
We’ll go and chill in castles
Then we’ll hurry home to roast

  1. “You’re dead but you still have deadlines.” Brilliant line. Fancy dress parties. Hellish. But games … Fun! 😂
