Weddings of Poets – the Manual

After the bridegroom’s speech
The ode may be scrambled or basically fried
And served with a battered pantoum
A helping of light villanelle on the side
A bowl of dressed ballads of doom
And next a sweet sonnet with marmalade on it
Washed down with a vintage haiku
To finish a couplet
Of tea with a chocolate
The groom will then stand up and spew
Ten guests may be heard with their own spoken word
There follow the cake and the toast
At the sound of the gong there is communal song
The rule is twelve stanzas at most
